President
John Dramani Mahama has launched the construction of a major solar park at
Agortor in the Dawa Industrial Enclave, reaffirming Ghana’s ambition to lead
Africa’s next phase of industrialisation powered by clean energy. The project,
led by Solar for Industries Limited (SFI), a subsidiary of LMI Holdings, will
deliver 200 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar power in its first phase,
representing approximately two percent of Ghana’s total electricity supply.

The
first 100MWp capacity is expected to be completed by December 2026, with the
second 100MWp phase to follow nine months later. The facility is projected to
scale up to 1,000MWp by 2032, which would make it the largest private
utility-scale solar plant in sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa.
President
Mahama described the development as a pivotal milestone in Ghana’s clean
industrial revolution agenda and said it complements national environmental
programmes such as the Blue Water Guards initiative, the Tree for Life
Reforestation Programme and the Clean Ghana Campaign.

Minister
for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George,
who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, praised the
initiative, noting that it symbolises progress and a bold step into an
energy-driven future. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for sustainable
energy adoption as a key driver of digital and industrial advancement across
Ghana.
