Kenya’s
Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy,
William Kabogo, has held a meeting with a delegation from AXIAN Telecom and
Wananchi Group at the Ministry headquarters, following AXIAN’s recent
acquisition of Wananchi Group. The delegation was led by AXIAN Telecom CEO
Hassan Jaber and AXIAN Telecom Fibre CEO Bertrand Lacroix.

Mr.
Kabogo described AXIAN’s entry into the Kenyan market as a significant boost to
the country’s digital landscape, noting that the acquisition represents strong
investor confidence in Kenya’s economy and the future of its digital
transformation agenda. He said Kenya remains committed to supporting investors
driving innovation, expanding connectivity, and creating new economic
opportunities through technology.
The
Cabinet Secretary emphasized that the Ministry is currently deploying 100,000
kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure as part of its national connectivity
programme, adding that AXIAN’s investments will further support digital
inclusion and next-generation technology development.

In
attendance were Secretary for Postal Services and Telecommunications Alphonse
Kanunga, Advisor to the Cabinet Secretary Douglas Gicho, along with Caroline
Julio and Nicholas Kibet from Wananchi Group.
