The
Conference of Telecommunications Operators and Service Providers of the WAEMU
Area (COFTEL) has opened in Ouagadougou, bringing together key players from the
region’s digital and telecommunications sector to discuss the future of
connectivity and digital transformation within the Union.
The
four-day conference, held under the chairmanship of the Director-General, marks
the 16th edition of the regional meeting and is focused on the theme:
“Operators in the WAEMU region in the era of digitalization: reinventing the
business model for sustainable growth.” The event serves as a platform to
strengthen cooperation, align strategies and examine new pathways for growth
amid rapid technological change across West Africa.

Deliberations
will center on strategic issues including digital innovation, infrastructure
sharing models, and regulatory harmonization to improve resilience and
competitiveness. The conference aims to identify actions that support inclusive
development and promote a stronger, harmonized digital ecosystem among member
states.
Organizers
say the regional collaboration remains crucial for accelerating digital
adoption and building sustainable economic transformation within the WAEMU
space.
