Ashesi
University has announced the appointment of Mrs. Pearl Esua-Mensah as the new
Executive Director of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC). Bringing more
than 25 years of leadership experience in finance, governance, entrepreneurship
and institutional transformation across Africa and the UK, she will lead GCIC
into its next phase of climate-focused innovation and impact.
Mrs.
Esua-Mensah is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
(UK) and holds an MBA from Manchester Business School. Her career includes
senior leadership roles such as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Deposit
Protection Corporation, Group CEO of Media General, and Deputy Managing
Director of UT Bank, where she drove capital raising, strategic restructuring
and organisational reform.
Her
appointment marks a return to Ashesi, where she previously served on the
University’s Board of Directors for 12 years, including three years as Board
Chair. University leadership said her long-standing dedication to ethical
leadership and sustainable development aligns strongly with GCIC’s mandate to
support climate-driven entrepreneurship in Ghana.
Mrs.
Esua-Mensah expressed enthusiasm about her new role, emphasising the
opportunity for climate innovation to drive a greener, more inclusive economy.
Ashesi
University also paid tribute to outgoing Executive Director and GCIC founder,
Ms. Ruka Sanusi, whose leadership over the past eight years helped establish
GCIC as a national leader in climate entrepreneurship and green innovation.
Ashesi
President Dr. Patrick Awuah and Global Affairs Canada, GCIC’s donor agency,
both welcomed the new appointment, noting confidence in Pearl Esua-Mensah’s
capability to build on the foundation laid to scale GCIC’s impact and support
Ghana’s transition toward a resilient, sustainable economy.
