South
Africa has taken a major step toward digital public service delivery with the
unveiling of the MyMzansi working prototype at the Global Digital Public
Infrastructure Summit. The platform, demonstrated live by Minister of
Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi, is designed to serve as
a zero-rated, one-stop portal for government services nationwide.
During
the demonstration, the Minister walked the audience through a driver’s licence
renewal completed entirely online within minutes. The pilot showcased automated
verification of credentials, updates of user information, processing steps
linked to national systems, and the instant display of a digital licence.
Malatsi
said the MyMzansi platform aims to significantly improve access, convenience,
and turnaround times for public services, while reducing administrative
barriers for citizens. Integrated with existing national infrastructure, the
platform is positioned to support broader digital transformation goals across
South Africa’s public sector.
The
government says MyMzansi will continue development and testing phases ahead of
a national rollout.
