Zambia and Airtel Mobile Commerce Ltd have launched a new Mobile Money on POS
solution that will allow Airtel Money users to make direct payments from their
mobile wallets at any FNB point-of-sale terminal across the country.
The
partnership marks a major step toward advancing interoperability in Zambia’s
payments ecosystem, enabling customers to carry out instant, cardless
transactions at retail outlets and businesses using their mobile wallet.
FNB
Zambia CEO Kapumpe Chola said the new solution is designed to respond to
customer needs and expand access to financial services. Airtel Money Country
Director Andrew Chuma noted that the collaboration will provide more
convenience for customers, support merchant growth, and accelerate efforts
toward a cashless economy.
Bank
of Zambia Deputy Governor Rekha Chifuwe Mhango endorsed the initiative, saying
such partnerships strengthen financial inclusion and support innovation within
the national digital transformation agenda.
The
new service is expected to boost adoption of digital payments, empower small
businesses, and contribute significantly to Zambia’s growing digital economy.
