The
Government of Namibia has reiterated that access to information and freedom of
expression remain core pillars of democracy and peace. This was announced
during the UNESCO 43rd Session of the General Conference currently taking place
in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Minister
of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, who
is leading Namibia’s delegation, said the country remains proud of its
longstanding role in the global media freedom agenda, citing the Windhoek +30
Declaration on Information as a Public Good and the recent listing of the 1991
Windhoek Declaration in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
UNESCO
has convened ministers of education and ICT representatives from across the
world to shape a future education system that is inclusive, sustainable and
reflective of the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological
landscape.
