Head
of Government Affairs for Africa at Microsoft, Akua Gyekye, has announced her
appointment to the Steering Committee of the Centre for Intellectual Property
and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) at Strathmore University.
CIPIT,
which has established itself as a leading research institution in Africa on the
intersection of law, technology, and innovation, focuses on evidence-based
research across areas including Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence,
Data Governance and Policy, Cyber Law, and Digital Identity.
According
to Gyekye on her LinkedIn social media platform, the committee held its first
meeting this week. She expressed appreciation to Dr. Melissa Omino, Director of
CIPIT, for the invitation and for the opportunity to contribute to future
direction and strategy for the institution’s work.
Akua
Gyekye welcomed the chance to collaborate with other members of the newly
formed Steering Committee, including Leonida Mutuku, Allan Rocha de Souza, Cece
Ojany-Bekhor, and Mark Irura.
Her
appointment reinforces CIPIT’s growing network of high-level African and global
experts shaping policy, governance, and innovation frameworks in the digital
ecosystem across the continent.
