South
Africa’s Minister at the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies,
Solly Malatsi, says the country’s Digital Public Infrastructure agenda will
focus on four core pillars to accelerate access to secure and inclusive public
services for citizens.
Speaking
during a panel session with Google ahead of the Global DPI Summit, Malatsi
identified national digital identity, a payments orchestration platform,
MzansiXchange data exchange, and the MyMzansi unified services platform as
foundational elements of the country’s roadmap.
He
said Digital Public Infrastructure presents an opportunity to close the digital
divide between rural and urban communities by lowering the cost of access and
enabling digital inclusion at scale.
Malatsi
noted that the unified MyMzansi platform will be used to take secure government
services directly to citizens, simplifying processes and improving the speed,
affordability and ease of use of public services across the country.
