Zimbabwe’s
Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, has officially
opened the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe
(POTRAZ) Strategic Formulation Workshop in Mutare, marking the start of a
national process to define the country’s digital roadmap for 2026 to 2030.

The
new strategy period is aimed at accelerating Zimbabwe’s transition into an
innovation-driven digital economy. According to the Minister, the plan will
focus on transforming Digital Centres into full-scale Digital Hubs to boost
innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as advancing digital skills
development for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Mavetera
outlined priorities including strengthening national ICT infrastructure
capacity, supporting the work of the National Innovation Acceleration Centre,
improving cybersecurity and data protection frameworks, and expanding
e-government and smart systems to drive national transparency and service
efficiency.

The
roadmap will also position Zimbabwe to fully leverage emerging technologies
such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, and 5G.
The
workshop brings together key sector stakeholders to craft the detailed
framework that will guide digital transformation over the next five years.
