The
Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), in its role as the National
Cybersecurity Agency, has co-hosted a strategic review session with the
Ministry of ICT to assess and refine the draft National Child Online Safety
Strategy. The initiative marks a significant step toward safeguarding
Eswatini’s children in the digital environment.

The
comprehensive session brought together key stakeholders involved in child
welfare and digital safety, including representatives from the Office of the
Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Education and Training, CANGO, the Eswatini
National Commission for UNESCO, UNICEF, the Royal Eswatini Police Service, the
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, MTN Eswatini, members of the
Youth Board, and organizations from the Children’s Consortium in Eswatini.
Supported
by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and facilitated by
consultant Noris Chirwa, the review focused on confirming the strategy’s
inclusiveness, ensuring broad-based input, and achieving consensus among
participants. Stakeholders engaged in focused working group sessions followed
by presentations and discussions aimed at strengthening the framework.

The
collaborative review underscores Eswatini’s commitment to developing a
comprehensive and effective policy framework that will ensure the protection
and well-being of children as they navigate the evolving digital landscape.
