Microsoft
South Africa has launched the Ikamva
Digital Platform, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at
equipping thousands of South African youth with digital skills essential for
thriving in a technology-driven economy.
The
platform’s launch follows the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
between Microsoft and the Department
of Higher Education and Training (DHET), underscoring a shared
commitment to advancing digital inclusion and skills development nationwide.
The
Ikamva Digital Platform will provide Technical
and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and
community colleges with access to cutting-edge digital learning resources,
including courses in cloud computing,
cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies. Students will
also have the opportunity to complement traditional qualifications with industry-recognised certifications,
enhancing their employability in the evolving job market.
Vukani
Mngxati, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft South Africa, described the
launch as a milestone in inclusive digital transformation. “Ikamva isn’t
just a platform—it’s a movement to ensure that digital transformation is
inclusive, reaching every learner, every educator, and every community,” he
said.
The
initiative is supported by a coalition of partners including GIZ, the Department of Communications and Digital
Technologies, Mindworx Consulting and Academy, WeThinkCode, Harambee Youth
Employment Accelerator, YES South Africa, Marvel Technologies Inc, BPESA, The
Collective X, and Philanthrosoft.
Through
collaboration, innovation, and shared vision, the Ikamva Digital Platform aims
to accelerate South Africa’s journey toward a digitally empowered and economically inclusive future.
