Nigeria’s
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed
the country’s leadership role in shaping global cooperation and sustainable
development during the Berlin Global Dialogue, where he joined world leaders
and policymakers to discuss Middle-Power Diplomacy and Green Finance.

Speaking
on the panel titled “The Pivotal Role of Middle Powers in a Multipolar
World,” Ambassador Tuggar emphasized that Nigeria’s diplomatic strength
lies in bridge-building rather than bloc alignment. He noted that as Africa’s
largest economy and most populous nation, Nigeria’s foreign policy under
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is driven by principles of
strategic autonomy, fairness, and mutual respect.
At
the Green Guarantee Group (GGG) Roundtable, the Minister outlined Nigeria’s
innovative financing initiatives supporting the country’s energy transition and
economic diversification. These include the establishment of the Nigeria Credit
Guarantee Company (NCGC) to de-risk investments in renewable energy and MSMEs,
a landmark Memorandum of Understanding on guarantee-backed financing for green
minerals, and enhanced national coordination through the National Council on
Climate Change.

Ambassador
Tuggar stressed that “Green finance is not charity, it’s smart investment,”
highlighting that Nigeria is demonstrating how climate action can drive
profitability, energy security, and transformative growth.
He
concluded that diplomacy in the 21st century must be rooted in collaboration
rather than domination, affirming Nigeria’s readiness to help shape a fairer,
greener, and more inclusive global order.
