Microsoft
South Africa has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the
Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to equip students and
educators with essential artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills. The
agreement, signed in the presence of Deputy Minister Dr. Mimmy Gondwe, marks a
major step toward preparing South Africa’s youth for the demands of the modern
workforce.

Vukani
Mngxati, the newly appointed CEO of Microsoft South Africa, described the
partnership as a shared commitment to shaping South Africa’s digital future.
“This MoU represents more than a partnership—it’s a pledge to empower thousands
of students and educators across TVET and Community Education and Training
colleges with the skills needed for the future,” he said.
The
collaboration aims to promote inclusive access to AI education, innovation, and
entrepreneurship, ensuring that technology becomes a driver of opportunity and
job creation.

Mr.
Mngxati noted that AI is already reshaping industries and called on leaders to
ensure that every South African has the confidence and capability to thrive in
a rapidly changing digital economy.
“Education
is everyone’s responsibility,” Mngxati added. “When we collaborate across sectors, we
don’t just build skills—we build hope for the future of our country.”
