The
Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin has paid an
official visit to Senegal, where she held discussions with His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye
on strengthening collaboration in the digital and telecommunications sector.

During
the visit, Ms. Bogdan-Martin commended Senegal’s long-standing engagement with
the ITU, noting that the country has been a valued member since its independence in 1960. She
highlighted that Dakar hosts one of
the oldest ITU zone offices, reflecting the nation’s
deep-rooted partnership with the UN agency.
The
ITU Secretary-General praised Senegal’s vibrant
youth population, strong entrepreneurial spirit, and growing innovation
ecosystem, describing the country as a regional leader in
digital transformation.

“Senegal
is rich in talent, youth, entrepreneurship, and innovation,” Ms. Bogdan-Martin said. “The ITU
remains committed to being a strategic partner to Senegal in building an
inclusive, secure, and sustainable digital ecosystem.”
The
discussions underscored ITU’s continued support for Senegal’s digital agenda
and broader efforts to expand
connectivity, enhance digital inclusion, and strengthen ICT infrastructure
across the West African region.
