The
African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the appointment of Dr. George Elombi as its new
President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, making him the fourth leader
to assume the position since the Bank’s establishment.
A
Cameroonian national and seasoned executive, Dr. Elombi succeeds Prof. Benedict Oramah, who has led
Afreximbank since 2015. Dr. Elombi has been part of the Bank since 1996,
steadily rising through the ranks to become Executive Vice President for Governance, Legal, and Corporate Services.
With
nearly three decades of experience at Afreximbank, Dr. Elombi brings a deep
understanding of the institution’s mission, structure, and strategic
objectives. He has played a key role in shaping the Bank’s legal and
institutional frameworks, expanding its capital base, and leading crisis
response initiatives across Africa and the Caribbean.
His
appointment indicates the Bank’s commitment to continuity and strong leadership
as it continues to drive intra-African trade, industrialization, and economic
integration across the continent.
