OpenAI
has announced the rollout of ChatGPT Go across Africa, marking a significant
step in making advanced artificial intelligence more accessible and affordable
on the continent. ChatGPT Go introduces a new subscription tier designed to
provide users with enhanced capabilities of ChatGPT at a fraction of the usual
cost.
The
launch comes as Africa experiences rapid adoption of AI-driven technologies
across sectors such as education, business, and innovation. With the new plan,
subscribers will have access to ChatGPT’s most popular features, including
higher message limits, image generation, file uploads, and memory, all powered
by GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model. The plan represents an average 75%
reduction in price compared to the next tier of subscription, making it one of
the most cost-effective ways to access premium AI tools.
Nick
Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, highlighted the company’s
commitment to expanding digital inclusion. “Millions of people across Africa
are already using ChatGPT to learn new skills, solve everyday problems, and
start businesses,” he said. “With ChatGPT Go, we want to make
cutting-edge AI affordable and accessible—so everyone can benefit from it.”
The
rollout spans all 54 African countries and follows successful launches in
regions such as India, the Middle East, and Latin America. OpenAI reports that
the introduction of ChatGPT Go in India led to a doubling of paid subscriptions
within a month, underscoring strong global demand for affordable AI access.
ChatGPT
Go joins OpenAI’s existing suite of subscription plans, which include Plus for
premium users and Pro for professional-scale applications. The company says the
new plan is aimed at everyday users seeking more flexibility and reliability
from the ChatGPT platform.
