Lyca
Mobile, the world’s largest mobile virtual network operator, has announced a
major nationwide expansion of its network coverage in Uganda, reinforcing its
commitment to improving connectivity and affordability for users across the
country.
As
part of the expansion, the company has launched the Lyca SUPA SIM, a new SIM
card available free of charge to customers. The SUPA SIM offers users five
flexible data options and unlimited Lyca-to-Lyca calling, enabling families,
friends, and communities to stay connected more easily.
In
a move to make voice services more affordable, Lyca Mobile has also introduced
a new voice tariff that slashes call rates from UGX 3 per second to UGX 1 per
second across all networks—a 67% reduction in call costs. Customers can make
calls using airtime top-ups without the worry of expiring validity, a step
aimed at enhancing affordability and convenience.
To
further enhance the customer experience, Lyca Mobile has partnered with
multiple fintech service providers across Uganda to expand recharge options. In
addition to traditional telecom agents and retail outlets, customers can now
top up through digital payment platforms, providing more flexibility and
accessibility.
Since
beginning operations in Uganda in January 2020, Lyca Mobile has remained
focused on delivering affordable, reliable, and innovative communication
services that support digital inclusion and economic growth.
Prem
Sivasamy, Deputy Chairman of Lyca Group, emphasized the company’s continued
dedication to its customers, stating, “Lyca Mobile serves over 16 million
customers worldwide, and we are always looking to ensure they stay connected.
Our network expansion in Uganda is part of our commitment to make sure that
wherever our customers are, they can benefit from the great value mobile plans
we offer.”
The
latest expansion cements Lyca Mobile’s position as a key player in Uganda’s
telecommunications landscape, supporting the country’s broader goals of
enhancing nationwide connectivity and driving inclusive digital transformation.
