The
Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with the Uganda
Communications Commission (UCC) and development partners, has reconvened to
review the progress of the ongoing ICT E-Waste Collection Pilot.
The
pilot, which is being implemented in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono, has
demonstrated the importance of accessible and trusted collection points in
ensuring safe handling and accountability of electronic waste.

Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde
commended the initiative as a key milestone under Uganda’s Digital
Transformation Roadmap, noting that while the pilot’s success is encouraging,
it also introduces new responsibilities for managing devices at the end of
their lifecycle.

The
pilot aims to strengthen Uganda’s e-waste management framework by promoting
sustainable disposal practices, protecting the environment, and supporting the
country’s broader efforts to build a circular and sustainable digital economy.
