The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (MP), has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating Ghana’s digital transformation during a high-level meeting with a delegation from Nokia at the Ministry in Accra.

The engagement, which followed earlier discussions held during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, focused on strengthening collaboration in key areas including digital infrastructure expansion, 5G readiness, and innovation-driven development.

Hon. George commended Nokia’s long-standing contribution to Ghana’s telecom ecosystem, describing the company as a key technology partner supporting all major network operators in the country. He emphasized the Ministry’s role in driving digital transformation across government sectors such as health, land administration, and public service delivery.

Discussions also centered on potential collaboration in emerging areas like 5G deployment, fibre-to-home connectivity, data centre development, and digital public safety systems aimed at enhancing national resilience and service delivery.

The Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to fast-track 5G implementation and improve broadband reliability to support innovation, digital inclusion, and remote work opportunities.

The Nokia delegation, led by Mr. Marco Rebecchi, Country Manager for Ghana and Nigeria, highlighted the company’s contributions to major national projects including the Eastern Corridor Fibre Network and Africa’s largest LTE rollout. Rebecchi reaffirmed Nokia’s dedication to local capacity building through its newly established Innovation Centre in Ghana, which supports the Ministry’s One Million Coders initiative.

Both parties expressed readiness to deepen cooperation over the next year, focusing on innovation, rural connectivity, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Nokia also extended an invitation to the Minister to visit its Centre of Excellence in Finland to explore future technology partnerships.

Other members of the Nokia delegation included Nana Tatse Narteh Afloe, General Program Manager; Osama Said, CT Head Nigeria and Director CEWA; Mustapha Salah, MN MU CEWA Head; Rajiv Aggarwal, CNS GBC MEA SSA Leader; and Brepo Akrofi, Country People Manager.
