MTN South Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by leading an extensive e-waste collection and recycling initiative at its Midrand Warehouse in Johannesburg, in commemoration of International E-Waste Day on October 14.

The drive, spearheaded by the company’s B-BBEE and Sustainability Team, forms part of MTN’s broader effort to minimize environmental impact and promote responsible disposal of electronic waste. With the world generating more than 60 million tonnes of e-waste annually—of which less than 20% is recycled—MTN is taking concrete steps to reduce its footprint across its operations and supply chain.

As part of its ongoing sustainability strategy, the company has introduced several eco-conscious measures, including biodegradable SIM cards, eco-friendly packaging, battery-powered equipment, and smarter transport logistics.

Through these initiatives, MTN South Africa aims to extend the lifecycle of technology, promote circular economy practices, and protect the planet for future generations.

The company’s efforts underscore its commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its business, setting a benchmark for corporate environmental responsibility in Africa’s telecommunications sector.
