President
William Ruto has officially launched Phase One of the Konza Technopolis
infrastructure, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s journey toward
becoming a regional hub for technological innovation and smart urban
development.
The
commissioning ceremony, held at the Konza Technopolis site, highlighted the
government’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and fostering
innovation-driven economic growth. Phase One features 40 kilometers of modern
roads, 170 kilometers of water and drainage systems, six kilometers of utility
tunnels housing fiber optics, and a 120MW smart power substation.

The
President also toured the Konza Technopolis Experience Centre and Intelligence
Operations Centre, where he was briefed on ongoing projects and the integration
of advanced digital systems designed to enhance interoperability and
efficiency.
Konza
Technopolis, one of Kenya’s flagship Vision 2030 projects, is being developed
as a Science Park and Area of Innovation aimed at creating jobs, attracting
global investors, and positioning Kenya as a leader in technology and smart
infrastructure across Africa.

Cabinet
Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William
Kabogo, who accompanied the President, emphasized the need for a
whole-of-government approach to support Konza’s full potential. He called for
all ministries to participate in pioneering and developing projects within the
Technopolis to solidify its status as Africa’s premier technology hub.

The
event was attended by several senior government officials, including Cabinet
Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Alice
Wahome; Governors Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni) and Joseph Ole Lenku
(Kajiado); Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Eliud Lagat; and senior
parliamentary and ICT leaders.
