Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and Jinka University have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in
artificial intelligence research, education, and technological development.
The
agreement was signed by Dr. Worku
Gachena, Director General of EAII, and Dr. Yohannes Yitbarek, President of
Jinka University. The partnership aims to foster knowledge exchange, joint
research projects, and capacity building to advance Ethiopia’s AI ecosystem and
support the country’s digital transformation goals.

Speaking
at the signing ceremony, Dr. Gachena
emphasized that the collaboration reflects the Institute’s broader efforts to
bridge the gap between academia and industry. He noted that leveraging AI to
enhance university research and address national challenges is a critical step
toward building a knowledge-driven economy.
Dr. Yitbarek, on his part, praised EAII’s contributions to
technological innovation in Ethiopia, describing the Institute’s work as
exemplary for Africa. He highlighted that the partnership will accelerate Jinka
University’s digital transformation initiatives and provide opportunities for
faculty and students to engage in EAII’s AI
Summer Camp and PhD
programs, helping to nurture a skilled and competitive
technology workforce.

The
signing marks another milestone in Ethiopia’s growing investment in artificial
intelligence, aimed at driving innovation, research excellence, and sustainable
