The
ICT Authority, in partnership with the World Bank, has held a high-level
meeting with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital
Economy to review progress under the 8th Implementation Support Mission of the
Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP).
The
meeting, which brought together key government and project stakeholders,
focused on assessing ongoing implementation activities, strengthening
collaboration, and advancing Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
Acting
ICT Authority CEO, Zilpher Owiti, opened the session by acknowledging the
project’s steady progress since the previous mission. She noted that earlier
implementation challenges had been addressed, allowing the project to shift its
focus toward improving absorption rates, delivering tangible results, and
ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the country.
Principal
Secretary for the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John
Kipchumba Tanui, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to driving digital
inclusion nationwide. He highlighted efforts to expand connectivity in rural
and underserved areas, with a particular focus on supporting schools, training
institutions, and other public facilities.
Principal
Secretary for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications,
Steve Isaboke, also presented updates on two key digital initiatives aimed at
digitizing and standardizing government information. These efforts, he said,
will enhance consistency, accuracy, and reliability in public communication
across state agencies.
Participants
expressed confidence in the project’s momentum and reaffirmed their shared
commitment to collaboration, innovation, and the timely delivery of KDEAP’s
objectives. The team reiterated its dedication to ensuring that each milestone
achieved contributes to building a more connected, efficient, and inclusive
digital economy for Kenya.
