The
Gabonese Agency for Space Studies and
Observations (AGEOS) is participating in the 2025 Space Sustainability Forum,
organized by the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) from October 7–8, 2025, at the ITU
headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The
high-level event brings together global decision-makers, space agency leaders,
technical experts, and industry representatives to address pressing challenges
surrounding space sustainability and to develop actionable strategies for a
safer, more inclusive, and responsible space environment.

Key
topics under discussion include the sustainable
management of satellite constellations, advancing exploration from low Earth orbit to lunar
orbit, and the implementation of space situational awareness and spectrum management
(S3A) — all essential to ensuring the safety and efficiency of
space communication systems.
During
the “Space for Good”
panel, the Director General of AGEOS
highlighted Gabon’s initiatives in leveraging space data for climate change monitoring, natural resource management, disaster prevention, and national security. He also
underscored the country’s vision for ensuring the long-term viability of space
through international cooperation,
efficient frequency management,
and the reduction of space debris
to safeguard the orbital environment.

As
the global space sector continues to expand, the Space Sustainability Forum
serves as a critical platform for promoting governance rooted in responsibility, sustainability, and international
solidarity. AGEOS reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to
a sustainable outer space and advancing the use of space technologies for sustainable development
across Africa.
