The National Cyber Security
Authority (NCSA), in partnership with Cisco and GIZ, has launched the CyberHub,
a new centre designed to advance cybersecurity education, innovation and
workforce development in Rwanda and across the region.
Located at the University of
Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology in Kigali, the CyberHub houses a
Cybersecurity Academy, Innovation Hub, and advanced technology labs to support
training in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and data protection.
The centre will also provide access to Cisco Networking Academy, one of the
world’s longest-running IT-to-jobs programs, offering certifications in digital
literacy and advanced cybersecurity.
NCSA said in a press
statement that the initiative is aimed at addressing critical skills gaps while
preparing a workforce capable of responding to evolving threats in
cybersecurity, data protection and privacy. “We are delighted to launch the
CyberHub, an important initiative dedicated to building talent with specialized
skills in cybersecurity and data protection,” NCSA stated.
Cisco’s East Africa Regional
Manager, Shain Rahim, emphasized the company’s commitment to Rwanda’s digital
transformation. “Investing in Rwanda through the CyberHub reflects Cisco’s
commitment to supporting the country’s digital transformation and preparing its
workforce for the future,” he said.
The CyberHub forms part of
Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration program, a global framework launched in
2023 to foster sustainable and inclusive innovation. With the new centre,
stakeholders expect Rwanda to become a key hub for cybersecurity resilience and
talent development in Africa.
