The United Nations Office
for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET) convened the inaugural UN Digital
Cooperation Day 2025 during the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the UN
General Assembly, marking one year since the adoption of the Global Digital
Compact.
The event drew more than 500
participants from over 68 countries and featured 14 sessions co-hosted with 11
partners. More than 250 speakers from governments, the private sector, civil
society, and academia shared perspectives on advancing global digital
cooperation.

The Permanent Representative
of Zambia to the UN, Chola Milambo emphasized inclusivity, stating, “True
digital cooperation only succeeds when everybody—everybody—has a seat at the
table. Our work is far from finished, but today proves that we are really on
the right path.”
Amandeep Gill, UN
Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies
also highlighted the importance of the Compact as a governance framework,
noting, “No matter how challenging international cooperation gets, we cannot
compromise on this.”
Tech Ambassador of Denmark, Anne
Marie Engtoft Meldgaard described the Global Digital Compact as “the North
Star,” underscoring its role in setting a common purpose and prioritizing
multistakeholder collaboration.

Organized in partnership
with COP30, ITU, OHCHR, UNDP, UN-Habitat, UNIDO, IEC, ISO, and The Patrick J.
McGovern Foundation, the programme focused on translating the Compact’s
principles into practice. Discussions assessed progress, explored new initiatives,
and set priorities for building an open, safe, secure, and accountable digital
future.
