Smart Africa has convened a high-level multistakeholder forum to advance discussions on reforms of AFRINIC, the Regional Internet Registry for Africa, and the development of the continental Council of African Internet Governance Authorities (CAIGA) framework.

The forum held on Monday provided critical updates on the ongoing AFRINIC reform process and outlined the next steps aimed at strengthening the institution’s governance and sustainability.

Participants also engaged in exchanges on the CAIGA framework, which is envisioned as a continental mechanism to support and harmonize internet governance across Africa. The discussions highlighted how CAIGA could play a central role in ensuring coordinated digital policies and oversight that respond to Africa’s growing connectivity and digital transformation needs.

A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion on AFRINIC’s sustainability, where stakeholders deliberated on long-term strategies to ensure the registry continues to serve Africa’s internet community effectively.

The forum reaffirmed Smart Africa’s commitment to driving inclusive and collaborative digital governance on the continent while fostering resilient institutions to support Africa’s digital future.
