The Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Space Agency (RSA), Gaspard Twagirayezu, has been appointed Vice President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) during the ongoing International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney.

Founded in 1951, the IAF is the world’s leading space advocacy organization, uniting space agencies, industry players, research institutions, universities, and professional societies to foster international cooperation in space exploration and development.

Mr. Twagirayezu’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Rwanda and Africa’s growing role in the global space sector. It also reinforces the continent’s increasing participation in shaping global space policy and advancing collaborative projects that drive innovation, sustainability, and socio-economic development through space science and technology.

The appointment comes as the IAC convenes thousands of space stakeholders from around the world to discuss advancements, opportunities, and challenges in the sector.
