South Africa’s Minister of
Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, has opened the G20
Ministerial Digital Economy Working Group Meeting today, setting out the
country’s priorities under its G20 Presidency.
In his remarks, Malatsi noted
South Africa’s advocacy for universal and equitable digital inclusion,
positioning digital public infrastructure as a driver of transformation, and
building innovation ecosystems that empower micro, small, and medium
enterprises. He also highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence that
is equitable, inclusive, trustworthy, and sustainable.

“The frameworks we discuss
today are implementable, practical instruments to ensure every learner,
entrepreneur and citizen benefits from an inclusive digital economy,” Malatsi stated.
The meeting forms part of
South Africa’s broader efforts to leverage digital transformation as a catalyst
for growth and equity across the G20 community.
