Vodacom Group CEO, Sitho
Mdlalose has joined industry leaders at the B20 South Africa: Digital
Transformation Task Force event, held at the Cullinan Hotel in Cape Town. The
panel discussion, themed “Building inclusive digital economies – investing
in transformation and access”, brought together key stakeholders to
deliberate on advancing digital inclusion.
Mr. Mdlalose was joined by
Gabriel Swanepoel, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for Southern
Africa at Mastercard, and Ashleigh Theophanides, Chief Strategy Officer at
Deloitte Africa. In his remarks, Mr. Mdlalose underscored Vodacom’s continued
commitment to bridging the digital divide and unlocking economic growth across
Africa.

Highlighting Vodacom’s
infrastructure investments, he noted that the company has invested R60 billion
in network infrastructure in South Africa over the past five years, with plans
to invest an additional R60 billion over the next five years. A significant
portion of this investment will be directed toward expanding coverage in
underserved rural communities.
“Our focus is to extend
connectivity to communities that have been left behind, ensuring they are
empowered to fully participate in the digital era and benefit from its economic
opportunities,” Mdlalose
said.
Vodacom reaffirmed that
these efforts align with its broader mission to Connect for a Better Future, by
driving inclusive access, enabling transformation, and supporting Africa’s
digital economy growth.
