A high-level Ghanaian
delegation has completed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tour in the United
Kingdom as part of efforts to finalize the country’s first National AI
Strategy.
The delegation was led by
the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey
George (MP), and included senior officials from key state agencies. Among them
were Alfred Nortey, Director of Administration; Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, Director
of the Data Protection Commission; Divine Selase Agbeti, Director of
Cybersecurity; and Emmanuel Ofori, Director of Innovation.
Also, part of the team was Prof.
Jerry John Kponyo, National AI Strategy Lead; Darlington Akogo, Co-Lead; Marcia
Opoku-Gyamfi, Administrative Assistant at KNUST; Maxwell Ababio, Head of
Technology and Ethics at the Data Protection Commission; and Johnson Masagotin
Singir, Science and Technology Manager at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and
Development Office (FCDO).
The AI tour provided the
Ghanaian officials with insights into the UK’s approach to artificial
intelligence policy, governance, and innovation. It also offered opportunities
for collaboration with UK stakeholders in research, ethics, and regulatory
frameworks.
Officials confirmed that the
visit marks the completion of the drafting process of Ghana’s National AI
Strategy, which is expected to guide the ethical and responsible adoption of AI
across key sectors including health, education, agriculture, cybersecurity, and
public service delivery.
