The Angolan Space Program
Management Office (GGPEN) is making its debut at the International
Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney, marking a significant step in the
country’s growing participation in the global space sector.
For the first time, GGPEN is
hosting its own booth at the congress, where it is presenting the Angolan Space
Mission alongside a range of projects and strategic initiatives aimed at
strengthening the country’s space ecosystem.

Leading the Angolan team is Dr.
Zolana Joao, D.Eng, who is presenting the country’s space mission and strategic
initiatives. Among the highlights is GEDAE – Angola’s first Geodata Center, a
groundbreaking initiative developed in partnership with AFRICELL. This project
reflects Angola’s growing capabilities in space applications, geoinformation
services, and data-driven solutions designed to drive both national and
regional development.
According to officials,
GEDAE is expected to play a critical role in supporting national and regional
development by enabling better use of satellite data for sectors such as
agriculture, urban planning, natural resource management, and disaster response.

Angola’s presence at IAC
2025 reflects its ambition to expand its role in the international space
community and to position itself as a hub for space innovation in Africa.
