Zimbabwe’s Minister of
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda
Mavetera has held a high-level engagement with MTN Group President and CEO,
Ralph Mupita on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in
New York,
The meeting was marked by a
sense of pride as Hon. Mavetera highlighted the significance of connecting with
a fellow Zimbabwean who is leading one of Africa’s largest telecommunications
companies on the global stage. She commended Mupita’s leadership at MTN,
describing it as an inspiration and a demonstration of the immense potential of
Zimbabwean talent.
Discussions focused on
strengthening collaboration between government and the private sector to
accelerate Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda. Hon. Mavetera expressed
her admiration for MTN’s role in driving innovation across Africa and welcomed
the opportunity to explore how the company can expand its contribution to the
country’s digital economy.
“This engagement reinforced
my belief that partnerships between government and private sector leaders,
especially those of our own, are key to unlocking Zimbabwe’s full potential,” she remarked.
Both parties agreed to
pursue further dialogue on initiatives that would support innovation,
infrastructure development, and digital inclusion in Zimbabwe.
