A meeting at
the African Union Headquarters has solidified collaboration between the GSMA,
the AU Commission for Infrastructure and Energy, and Africa's leading mobile
operators to accelerate the continent's digital transformation. The high-level
engagement brought together representatives from the G6 coalition – including
MTN, Orange, and AXIAN Group – to align efforts toward achieving the ambitious
goals of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
The gathering
marked a critical step in mobilizing public-private partnerships to drive
digital inclusion across Africa's 54 nations. With a combined reach serving 1.4
billion people, the G6 operators presented a unified industry perspective on
how strategic collaboration can unlock the full socio-economic potential of
mobile connectivity.
The discussions
focused on key priorities including expanding mobile broadband access,
fostering digital skills development, and creating enabling policy environments
for sustainable growth.
The AU
Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy emphasized the importance of such
collaborations in achieving the continent's digital ambitions under Agenda
2063.
The GSMA and G6
coalition have committed to working closely with AU member states to translate
this shared vision into concrete initiatives. Expected focus areas include
rural connectivity projects, digital literacy programs, and support for
homegrown technology innovation ecosystems.
This
strengthened partnership comes at a pivotal moment as Africa seeks to bridge
its digital divide while positioning itself as a competitive player in the
global digital economy. With mobile technology already contributing
significantly to GDP growth across the continent, the new collaboration
framework aims to amplify this impact through coordinated action.
