MTN Group has
announced the appointment of Yolanda Cuba as Deputy CEO of MTN South Africa,
effective 1 November 2025. This key promotion comes as part of broader
executive changes designed to accelerate growth across the continent's largest
mobile operator.
Ms. Cuba, who
previously served as Vice President for Southern and East Africa (SEA), will
now work alongside incoming MTN SA CEO Ferdi Moolman to drive the company's
strategic objectives in its home market. Her appointment brings extensive
regional experience to the South African operation at a critical juncture in
the company's digital transformation journey.
The leadership
transition marks a significant moment for MTN's South African business, which
continues to navigate challenging market conditions while maintaining its
position as a connectivity leader. Yolanda Cuba's deep understanding of African
telecommunications markets, developed through her tenure overseeing multiple
MTN operations across the continent, positions her well to contribute to MTN
SA's next phase of growth.
Ms. Cuba's
career with MTN has seen her take on increasingly senior roles since joining
the Group. As VP for SEA, she oversaw operations in multiple markets,
developing expertise in managing diverse regulatory environments and
competitive landscapes. Her new role as Deputy CEO will see her apply this
pan-African perspective to MTN's home market operations.
The leadership
change comes as MTN SA prepares for a chairman transition, with current
chairman Mike Harper set to retire in 2026 and be succeeded by Sindisiwe
Mabaso-Koyana. These changes form part of MTN Group's broader strategy to
streamline operations and sharpen execution across its three core business
platforms of Connectivity, Fintech and Digital Infrastructure.
