The Malawi
Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has partnered with the Malawi
Police Service (MPS) to transform law enforcement operations through
cutting-edge technology. This collaboration marks a significant leap forward in
the country's crime prevention and public safety capabilities, with MACRA
providing drones, computers and internet connectivity to eight police command
centers nationwide.

At the Police
Training School in Limbe, 35 officers are currently undergoing an intensive
17-day Drone Track and Trace Technologies Training program conducted by MACRA.
The initiative will equip law enforcement personnel with critical skills in
aerial surveillance, search and rescue operations, and evidence gathering using
advanced drone technology.
MACRA's
Broadcasting Manager representing the Director General, Matilda Kanjeri
stressed the transformative potential of this technology during the training
launch. "Drones have evolved from mere conveniences to essential tools
for public safety, enabling more effective emergency response and enhanced
surveillance capabilities," Kanjeri stated.
Deputy
Commissioner John Nkhoma, representing the Inspector General of Police, also praised
MACRA's support as a game-changer for modern policing. The newly deployed
technologies will provide real-time situational awareness, improve monitoring
of large public gatherings, and significantly boost investigative capabilities.

This
partnership forms part of MACRA's broader mission to drive digital
transformation across Malawi. Through its Muuni Fund initiative, the regulator
continues to champion digital innovation and entrepreneurship while supporting
critical public sector modernization efforts.
