As part of its
ongoing strategic realignment, MTN Group has announced significant leadership
changes designed to sharpen its operational focus across key African markets.
Among these changes, Ebenezer Twum Asante, currently Senior Vice President of
Markets, will take on an expanded role as Vice President of Ghana, Southern,
and East Africa (SEA), reinforcing MTN’s commitment to driving growth in these
strategically important regions.
MTN’s latest
executive reshuffle comes as the company refines its Ambition 2025 strategy,
consolidating its business into three core pillars: Connectivity, Fintech, and
Digital Infrastructure. The restructuring aims to better position the Group to
capitalize on Africa’s accelerating digital transformation, with a renewed
emphasis on data adoption, financial inclusion, and infrastructure
development.
In his new
role, Mr. Twum Asante will oversee operations in Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia,
South Sudan, Sudan, Liberia, and the joint ventures in Eswatini and Botswana.
His appointment underscores MTN’s confidence in his ability to accelerate
growth in these markets, where the company sees significant potential for
expanding connectivity and digital services.
He brings extensive experience to his expanded responsibilities, having previously
served as Senior Vice President of Markets, where he played a pivotal role in
driving MTN’s operational strategy across multiple regions. His leadership has
been instrumental in navigating complex market dynamics, fostering innovation,
and strengthening MTN’s competitive position.
Under his
stewardship, MTN expects to deepen its market penetration, enhance customer
experience, and leverage synergies across the Southern and East African
regions. His appointment aligns with the Group’s broader objective of
streamlining its Markets portfolio for greater efficiency and sustained
growth.
Mr.VAsante’s
transition is part of a wider executive reshuffle aimed at reinforcing MTN’s
strategic execution. Other key changes include:
Tsholofelo Molefe, Group CFO, assuming oversight of mergers and
acquisitions (M&A), Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, expanding his
responsibilities to include Francophone Africa, Ferdi Moolman taking the helm
as CEO of MTN South Africa and Mazen Mroué focusing exclusively on Digital
Infrastructure expansion.
