BasiGo has
announced a landmark partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co.,
Limited (CATL), the world's leading EV battery manufacturer. As CATL's
authorized service agent for Sub-Saharan Africa, BasiGo will provide
specialized maintenance, repair, and end-of-life management for CATL battery
systems, marking a critical step in strengthening the region's EV
infrastructure.
The
collaboration ensures that EV operators across Kenya and Rwanda will now have
access to local, world-class battery servicing. BasiGo's service centers will
be equipped with CATL-certified tools and training to handle repairs for
electric buses and other EVs powered by CATL technology. Additionally, the
centers will serve as collection points for used batteries, prioritizing safe
recycling and sustainable disposal practices.

"This
partnership addresses one of the biggest concerns for EV adoption in
Africa—reliable after-sales support,"
said a BasiGo spokesperson. "By localizing CATL's battery expertise,
we’re reducing downtime, extending battery life, and giving operators the
confidence to transition to electric mobility."
CATL, which
holds over 30% of the global EV battery market, is renowned for its
cutting-edge lithium-ion technology. The collaboration with BasiGo, a pioneer
in Africa's electric public transport sector signals growing momentum for the
continent's EV ecosystem. With over 100 electric buses already deployed in
Nairobi and Kigali, BasiGo’s expanded service capabilities could accelerate the
shift away from fossil fuel-dependent transport.
The partnership
also aligns with circular economy principles, ensuring responsible management
of battery waste a key concern as Africa’s EV market expands.
