MTN Uganda's
Mobile Money division has teamed up with national law enforcement and financial
sector leaders to combat the growing threat of digital financial fraud. The
high-level meeting at Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in
Kibuli brought together key stakeholders under the Financial Sector Anti-Fraud
Consortium to enhance protections for Uganda's rapidly growing digital
economy.

MTN MoMo CEO
Richard Yego participated in critical discussions with AIGP Tom Magambo
Rwabudongo and senior CID officials, focusing on four strategic pillars:
improved inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, capacity building,
and public awareness campaigns. The dialogue reflects mounting concerns about
sophisticated cybercrime targeting mobile money platforms and digital banking
services across East Africa.
The telecom
giant has been investing heavily in fraud prevention systems as mobile money
transactions continue dominating Uganda's financial landscape. The consortium
meeting included influential figures from Uganda's financial and legal sectors,
including Uganda Bankers' Association Executive Director Wilbrod Owor and
Uganda Communications Commission cybersecurity head Ronald Bakakimpa. Their
collective expertise will help shape a coordinated national response to
emerging digital fraud threats.

CID leadership
welcomed the private sector's engagement, recognizing that effective fraud
prevention requires joint efforts between law enforcement and financial service
providers. The discussions yielded concrete plans for regular intelligence
exchanges, joint training programs, and public education initiatives about
common fraud schemes.
