The Kenya Space
Agency (KSA) has played a pivotal role in the Mazingira Bora Hackathon and STEM
Fest held at Strathmore University on August 1-2, inspiring a new generation of
environmental innovators through space technology. The event united student
teams from across Kenya to develop STEM solutions addressing pressing
ecological challenges.
KSA transformed
the festival into an interactive space exploration hub, featuring a mobile
planetarium, virtual reality simulations, telescope viewings, and hands-on
demonstrations of satellite applications for environmental monitoring. These
immersive experiences revealed how space-derived data helps combat climate
change, manage disasters, and protect ecosystems connecting cosmic technology
to terrestrial sustainability.

Participants
explored how Kenyan-developed space tech like the Taifa-1 Earth observation
satellite contributes to smarter environmental management nationwide. The
agency distributed educational materials to spark continued STEM engagement,
including space club handbooks and career guidance resources. KSA's involvement
reinforced its strategic focus on cultivating homegrown space talent, aligning
with Kenya's ambition to become Africa's premier space innovation hub.
The event
marked another milestone in Kenya's space outreach program, which has reached
over 50,000 students through school visits, competitions, and mentorship
initiatives.

KSA's
participation underscored how space agencies can catalyze youth innovation
beyond traditional aerospace sectors, positioning space infrastructure as
critical enabler for achieving Sustainable Development Goals and combating
climate change through cutting-edge STEM applications.
