Senegal’s
Minister of Communication, Telecommunications, and Digital Affairs, Alioune
SALL, has engaged with African and global digital leaders during the World
Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), reinforcing regional cooperation and
positioning Senegal as a key player in the digital economy. Representing
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Minister SALL participated in high-level
discussions on the 20-year review of WSIS implementation and preparations for
the upcoming UN General Assembly in December 2025.
Minister SALL
held strategic bilateral meetings with his African counterparts, including
South Africa’s Minister of Communication and Digital Technology, H.E. Mr. Solly
Malatsi. Their discussions centered on enhancing digital inclusion and fintech
innovation, drawing inspiration from successful models like M-PESA. This
exchange highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation in accelerating
digital transformation across the continent.
Beyond Africa,
Minister SALL met with digital leaders from Malaysia, Estonia, Singapore,
Qatar, and the UK to explore adaptable solutions for Senegal’s digital
governance, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
In a meeting
with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Senegal reaffirmed its
commitment to digital sovereignty and the New Deal for Technology, which seeks
to make the country a regional hub for innovation. Minister SALL emphasized
Senegal’s focus on localized digital solutions, financial inclusion, and
strategic partnerships to drive sustainable growth.
