Senegal’s Minister of Communication, Telecommunications, and Digital Affairs, Alioune SALL, has engaged with African and global digital leaders during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), reinforcing regional cooperation and positioning Senegal as a key player in the digital economy. Representing President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Minister SALL participated in high-level discussions on the 20-year review of WSIS implementation and preparations for the upcoming UN General Assembly in December 2025.

Minister SALL held strategic bilateral meetings with his African counterparts, including South Africa’s Minister of Communication and Digital Technology, H.E. Mr. Solly Malatsi. Their discussions centered on enhancing digital inclusion and fintech innovation, drawing inspiration from successful models like M-PESA. This exchange highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation in accelerating digital transformation across the continent.

Beyond Africa, Minister SALL met with digital leaders from Malaysia, Estonia, Singapore, Qatar, and the UK to explore adaptable solutions for Senegal’s digital governance, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

In a meeting with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Senegal reaffirmed its commitment to digital sovereignty and the New Deal for Technology, which seeks to make the country a regional hub for innovation. Minister SALL emphasized Senegal’s focus on localized digital solutions, financial inclusion, and strategic partnerships to drive sustainable growth.
