Zambia charts digital future at Presidential Roundtable with industry leaders

The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema has convened Zambia's inaugural Digital Economy Roundtable, bringing together key ICT and telecommunications stakeholders including Airtel Networks Zambia Plc. The high-level dialogue focused on aligning private sector capabilities with government priorities to build an inclusive digital ecosystem. 

President Hichilema positioned digital advancement as central to Zambia's economic growth strategy, emphasizing technology's transformative potential in healthcare, education, and other critical development sectors. "Digital infrastructure forms the backbone of our modern economy," the President stated, urging collaborative efforts to bridge connectivity gaps across urban and rural communities. 

Airtel Zambia showcased its contributions to this national vision, detailing ongoing 4G and fiber network expansions – particularly in underserved regions – and its UNICEF-backed initiative to connect schools. The telecom leader reaffirmed its commitment to delivering affordable, innovative solutions that support Zambia's digital ambitions. 

The roundtable established a framework for sustained public-private cooperation in digital infrastructure development. Industry participants welcomed the government's proactive engagement, recognizing it as a catalyst for Zambia's transition to a knowledge-based economy. 

This strategic engagement marks a pivotal moment in Zambia's digital journey, creating momentum for policies and investments that will connect unserved populations while strengthening the country's position as a regional digital hub.
