The National
Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN) of Angola and the South African
National Space Agency (SANSA) have solidified bilateral cooperation in space
science and technology through an agreement signed in Pretoria. The memorandum
establishes a framework for joint satellite projects, knowledge exchange, and
workforce development, marking a significant advancement in Africa’s space
sector collaboration.

GGPEN Director
General Zolana João and SANSA CEO Humbulani Mudau formalized the partnership,
witnessed by senior officials from both nations, including Angola’s National
Director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Eng. Matias
Borges, and South Africa’s Department of Space Science representative Itumeleng
Mokoloi. The agreement prioritizes shared utilization of Angola’s ANGOSAT-2
telecommunications satellite, Earth observation data analysis, and
collaborative training initiatives.
"This
partnership accelerates our capacity to develop space solutions addressing
continental challenges in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and
connectivity," stated João. The accord includes
provisions for fostering space-related startups and industrial projects,
reinforcing both nations’ commitments to positioning Africa as a competitive
player in the global space economy.

The
collaboration builds on existing technological ties between Angola and South
Africa, with immediate focus on optimizing ANGOSAT-2’s capabilities for
regional benefit. SANSA’s expertise in satellite data applications will
complement Angola’s infrastructure investments, creating synergies for
sustainable development across Southern Africa.
