Kenya’s Cabinet
Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William
Kabogo has met with South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital
Technologies, Solly Malatsi on the sidelines of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event.
The discussions focused on deepening bilateral collaboration in digital
transformation, including finalizing a Kenya-South Africa Digital Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU).
Mr. Kabogo
congratulated South Africa on assuming the chairmanship of the WSIS+20 summit,
emphasizing the importance of African nations working together to shape the
continent’s digital future. The leaders explored partnerships in digital public
identity systems, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and Kenya’s
participation in the G20 Digital Economy Working Group.
“Collaboration
between Kenya and South Africa is crucial for advancing Africa’s digital
agenda,” said Kabogo, who was accompanied by
Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Steve Isaboke and
Tech Envoy Ambassador Philip Thigo. The meeting also highlighted Kenya’s AI
Taskforce initiatives and opportunities for joint innovation in emerging
technologies.
The discussions
align with Kenya’s Digital Economy Blueprint, which prioritizes cross-border
digital infrastructure and harmonized policies to enhance regional
connectivity. With South Africa leading the WSIS+20 summit, the two nations aim
to position Africa as a unified voice in global digital governance
discussions.
