The Eswatini
Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has been recognized on the global stage,
receiving the WSIS Prizes 2025 Champion Award in the Capacity Building
category. The honor celebrates ESCCOM's groundbreaking "Capacity Building
for Elderly and Disabled Persons" initiative, which stood out among nearly
1,000 international submissions for its innovative approach to digital
inclusion.

The award
ceremony at the World Summit on the Information Society speaks highly of Eswatini's
leadership in ensuring no citizen gets left behind in the digital revolution.
ESCCOM's winning project, funded through the Universal Access and Service Fund,
provides tailored ICT training and accessibility solutions for elderly citizens
and persons with disabilities – groups often excluded from technological
advancement.
Eswatini's
digital inclusion efforts received further recognition when a photograph of His
Majesty King Mswati III became a finalist in the WSIS Photo Contest 2025. The
powerful image, showcasing the monarch engaging with youth and technology,
visually encapsulated the nation's vision of blending tradition with
innovation.

"This
award validates our commitment to making technology accessible to all
Eswatinis," stated an ESCCOM representative. The
Commission's program has become a model for other developing nations seeking to
implement truly inclusive digital transformation strategies that consider
diverse user needs.
The WSIS honor
solidifies Eswatini's reputation as a continental leader in equitable digital
development. As ESCCOM continues expanding its inclusive initiatives, the award
serves as both recognition of progress made and motivation to further bridge
the digital divide through innovative, human-centered solutions.
