Ethiopia’s
former Minister of State for ICT, Muluday Kere has assumed office as Ethiopia's
new Minister of State for Innovation and Technology, bringing extensive
government experience to the nation's digital transformation agenda. The
appointment marks a strategic reinforcement of Ethiopia's technology leadership
as the country accelerates its digital economy initiatives.
Minister Kere
transitions to the role after serving as Minister of State for ICT and Digital
Economy since 2017, where he played a pivotal role in developing Ethiopia's
digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystems. His previous tenure as Deputy
and Director General across multiple government institutions provides deep
institutional knowledge to drive Ethiopia's technology modernization
efforts.

Dr. Beleta
Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology, welcomed the appointment,
emphasizing the critical importance of the ICT sector to Ethiopia's
development. "The digital economy represents a vital national
priority," stated Dr. Molla, expressing confidence in Minister Kere's
ability to collaborate effectively with ministry staff and stakeholders to
advance Ethiopia's innovation goals.
The leadership
transition comes as Ethiopia implements its Digital Transformation Strategy
2025, which prioritizes digital skills development, startup ecosystem growth,
and government service digitization. Minister Kere's experience positions him
to oversee key initiatives including the expansion of digital ID systems, smart
city developments, and the country's emerging AI research capabilities.

Ethiopia's
technology sector has gained increasing international attention following
recent partnerships with global organizations and the establishment of the
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.
