Zimbabwe sends tech ambassadors to Huawei's Global Training Program

Six top Zimbabwean university students have embarked on a transformative journey to Huawei's global headquarters in Shenzhen, China, as part of the prestigious Seeds for the Future program. Tatenda Mavetera, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, officiated at the send-off ceremony on behalf of the program's patron, First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa. 

Now in its seventh year under the First Lady's patronage, the initiative has equipped over 200 Zimbabwean students with cutting-edge digital skills. The current cohort, drawn from six national tertiary institutions, follows in the footsteps of last year's participants who secured third place in Huawei's global competition. 

"This program develops the ambassadors of Zimbabwe's digital revolution," stated Minister Mavetera. "Their success demonstrates our nation's growing technological capabilities on the world stage." The intensive training at Huawei's innovation hub covers emerging technologies including 5G, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. 

The government has set ambitious targets for this year's participants, building on Zimbabwe's rising profile in global tech competitions. The Seeds for Future initiative forms part of Zimbabwe's broader strategy to develop homegrown digital talent and position the country as a competitive player in Africa's technology landscape. 

Since its inception, the program has become a key pipeline for Zimbabwe's digital workforce, with alumni assuming critical roles in the country's ICT sector. This year's selection reflects Zimbabwe's commitment to gender parity and inclusive participation in the digital economy.
