Safaricom
Ethiopia has officially established the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation, marking
a significant step in its mission to foster inclusive and sustainable
development across the country. Registered under the FDRE Authority for Civil
Society Organizations, the Foundation will focus on five key pillars:
education, health, digital inclusion, economic empowerment, and emergency
response.
The Foundation
builds on Safaricom Ethiopia’s ongoing commitment to social investment, having
already directed over 110 million ETB into community programs, particularly in
education. Additionally, the company has mobilized 540 million ETB from
international partners to support youth digital skills initiatives, preparing
Ethiopia’s next generation for a technology-driven future.

Through
initiatives like providing free internet and devices to schools, expanding
financial access for rural farmers and women via M-PESA Ethiopia, and
responding to national emergencies, Safaricom Ethiopia has demonstrated how
technology can drive meaningful change. The newly formalized Foundation will
amplify these efforts by forging stronger partnerships and deploying innovative
solutions to transform lives at scale.
“We believe in
the power of technology guided by empathy,”
said a Safaricom Ethiopia representative. “The Foundation allows us to
deepen our impact, ensuring that digital advancement benefits all
Ethiopians.”
