Kenya's
Special Climate Envoy, Ambassador Ali Mohamed has joined prominent global
climate leaders at the State of Climate Politics Forum in London, reinforcing
Africa's growing role in shaping climate solutions. The high-level discussion
at Mansion House brought together influential voices including former German
climate envoy Jennifer Morgan and CEOs from leading climate organizations to
explore pathways for climate cooperation and green economic
transformation.
Ambassador
Mohamed outlined Africa's proactive stance in global climate action,
highlighting President William Ruto's leadership as Chair of the Committee of
African Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSCC). He pointed to the
groundbreaking 2023 African Climate Summit and the resulting Nairobi
Declaration as pivotal moments that established Africa as an essential partner
in climate diplomacy.

Despite
bearing minimal responsibility for global emissions, Africa is pioneering
innovative approaches to climate-compatible development. The continent is
advancing a unique industrial revolution that combines economic growth with
climate-positive outcomes through initiatives like the Accelerated Partnership
for Renewables in Africa (APRA) and the Africa Green Industrialisation
Initiative (AGII). These programs are designed to overcome Africa's exclusion
from energy transition financing by creating demand for renewable energy
through green industrial projects.
The
envoy underscored the persistent challenge of climate financing, noting that
crushing debt burdens constrain African nations' ability to invest in both
climate resilience and basic social services. He reiterated President Ruto's
call for urgent reforms to the international financial system to increase
funding flows and support Africa's sustainable development.
The
forum discussions also highlighted Africa's dual role as both climate solution
provider and advocate for equitable financial structures.
